The Michigan Sailing Team is lucky to have two wonderful volunteer coaches, Brian Tobelmann and Max Caballero.
Brian is a doctoral candidate at University of Michigan’s Graduate School of Engineering. He completed his undergraduate B.S. at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, earning an engineering degree. As an undergraduate, Brian was a part of the Wisconsin Sailing Team, where he skippered for their dinghy team and served on both the Wisconsin and MCSA board. Brian is also serving as Commissioner to lead the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association and its executive board. He has been with us since 2016, running practices and traveling to events such as our National Qualifiers.
Max is a graduate student at the University of Michigan College of Engineering. He completed his undergraduate education at the Coast Guard Academy, earning his degree in naval architecture and marine engineering. As an undergraduate, Max was a part of the Coast Guard Academy Sailing Team, where he crewed for their dinghy team and served as a captain for two years. Max has been with us since 2017, and he has been a valuable part of our team and practices. He has been an especially great resource for our crews.
