Summary
This past weekend, September 22-23, the Michigan Sailing Team hosted the annual Cary Price Memorial Regatta. Teams from across the Midwest along with interconference teams came to race in this Fall Championships qualifying regatta on Baseline Lake.
On Saturday, four sailors from our women’s team competed in A and B fleet. The wind started at ten knots and died throughout the day, causing multiple postponements and an early end to the race day. Despite sailing in dying, shifty wind conditions, the women’s team gained a fourteen-point lead on the second place Notre Dame, winning seven of the nine races of the day. In her debut regatta with the Michigan Sailing Team, freshman J. Probst won every race in B division on Saturday.
On Sunday, the teams again experienced Baseline Lake’s characteristic light, shifty wind. Four different sailors— C. Goulet (‘21), A. Wisotskey (‘19), S. Silvestri (‘19), and W. Neubauer (‘20)— sailed for the Michigan Sailing team. By the end of the day, these sailors were able to keep the team in first place, winning the regatta by twenty-one points. Notre Dame earned second place, and Vanderbilt finished in third place.
